Stormy Sky

5 x 7
Oil on Canvas Panel
I've signed up for a couple of plein air events this summer....one of which is coming up soon. Time to get some landscape practice. This was from a photo of Lake Ontario. Not very plein air...but at least it's not a face. Hoping for different weather conditions as well on the days I'm painting...
I've also promised myself to make a major effort to be a "daily" painter....or at least...."almost daily". So I will be posting whatever I've painted from now on....no excuses...

Captivated

Oil on Canvas Panel

I enjoyed painting the large version of this, so I decided this morning to do the Daily Painter's mini version. Not an exact likeness ..... but close.... which only counts in horseshoes......and painting.

Another Unfinished Painting

28 x 22
Oil on Wrapped Canvas
UNFINISHED...
Went to a studio downtown yesterday that has artist models on the weekends. I should have had three hours to work on this...but got caught in the middle of a Turkish soccer celebration and ended up with less than two hours to paint.
This will be the model and pose for the next two Fridays. Hoping I'll be able to make the last session to complete this.
July 5, 2008....Looks like this painting will remain unfinished. I wasn't able to go downtown last night and that was the last session. I'll probably just paint over this.

Second Glance

14 x 11
Oil on Wrapped Canvas

AVAILABLE

This is a silly story, but I was reading an article about meeting people and dating and it said that you should make eye contact, look away, make eye contact again, hold it for three seconds, smile and when you look away the second time you should not look back. Very funny....I don't know how anyone could possibly do that without bursting into laughter. It's an injury just waiting to happen. I thought of that story when I named this painting. She should be just about to smile....

Portrait of a Young Woman

14 x 11
Oil on Stretched Canvas

SOLD
Private Collection, Ontario, Canada

Please note: The image I've taken of this painting is not very clear if you click on it. I will rephotograph this and repost. I decided to continue developing this painting and this is the final image on June 15th.

I've been studying the work of some master portrait painters lately....how they describe the features....handling of light....etc. Painted this portrait study trying to capture what I've learned. Not as easy as it looks...

Posting a second picture of this painting. This one is much clearer than the original post if you click on it. Although this one is looking faded, it is a better example of the texture of the painting. The colours in the original photo are much closer to the painting. I will have to continue working on my photography skills... but it is true that the painting always looks so much better than the picture.

Hats 5 - Good Hair Day!

7 x 5
Oil on Canvas Panel
SOLD
Private Collection, Ontario, Canada
Yes, this is the 5th painting in my series of woman with hats. I had every intention of painting her with a hat...... but it didn't happen.... So.... the story is that she took her hat off and is holding it in her right hand....unfortunately, out of frame.

Aged to Perfection

14 x 11
Oil on Canvas Board

What can I say....I love this painting. I keep looking at it. I'm usually very critical of my own work....but this one can do no wrong....lol
